It was developed by me specifically to retouch and blend images in the most creative way. In these blog&#8217;s pages I&#8217;m publishing a series of tips and tutorials to show you how to get the most creative results from it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&#8217;s begin this series of &#8220;making-of&#8221; with a winter composition, just to take a fresh breath during this hot summer!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">First thing:\u00a0launch PhotoPatch and load a background and a foreground image. You&#8217;ll find the\u00a0load button\u00a0by opening each of the respective menus on the upper application bar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I took the two images for\u00a0this tutorial from one of my first photo-projects called\u00a0<a style=\"color: #743399;\" title=\"LifeCycle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/Pages\/en\/portfolio.php?gallery=LifeCycle\" target=\"_blank\">LifeCycle<\/a>. Specifically, the opening image (the leafless woods) will be my\u00a0background image and the dead\u00a0leaf entangled among thorns is going to be the\u00a0foreground image.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_314\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/2014\/08\/photopatch-making-of-1\/photopatch_v15_tutorial_1_04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-314\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-314\" class=\"wp-image-314\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/PhotoPatch_v15_Tutorial_1_04.jpg\" alt=\"PhotoPatch v1.5 - Making-Of #1 - Image #1\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/PhotoPatch_v15_Tutorial_1_04.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/PhotoPatch_v15_Tutorial_1_04-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-314\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">After loading the background and the foreground image.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As you can see after loading it PhotoPatch places the foreground at the center of the screen and with\u00a0<strong style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #000000;\">a\u00a0smaller size<\/strong>\u00a0than\u00a0the background one.\u00a0This is done\u00a0to prevent that\u00a0the latter\u00a0gets completely covered by the former. However, you can move, rotate and resize the foreground image any time by using\u00a0two fingers over\u00a0it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My\u00a0goal here is to merge\u00a0the two images by creating a somehow\u00a0surreal final result. As usual, playing creatively with blending and effect filters can lead to several completely\u00a0different results. I&#8217;ll show you some of those possibilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now I add a <strong>&#8220;mono red&#8221; filter<\/strong>\u00a0effect to the foreground image, just to make it more dramatic.\u00a0All the\u00a0tuning filters related to the foreground image are located inside the menu &#8220;Foreground&#8221; located on the upper application bar.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_269\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/2014\/07\/photopatch-making-of-1\/photopatch_mkof_001_03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-269\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-269\" class=\"wp-image-269\" src=\"http:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PhotoPatch_MkOf_001_03.jpg\" alt=\"PhotoPatch - Making-Of #1 - Image #3\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PhotoPatch_MkOf_001_03.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.marcoristuccia.com\/it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/PhotoPatch_MkOf_001_03-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-269\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The \u201cMono Red\u201d effect filter applied to the foreground image.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nNow I&#8217;ll use the\u00a0<strong style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #000000;\">magic wand<\/strong>\u00a0tool to unselect (mask out) the sky of the foreground\u00a0image, leaving only the branches and the leaf visible. You&#8217;ll find the magic wand tool on the left area of the bottom application bar. This tool is able to unselect (or select)\u00a0<strong style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #000000;\">a contiguous area of similar colors<\/strong>, starting from the finger&#8217;s touch point. The tool&#8217;s parameters\u00a0are accessible by pressing\u00a0the bottom left &#8220;levels&#8221; button, just on on the left of the tool bar. For the magic wand tool there are two parameters: the tolerance and the behavior. With the former you can specify\u00a0how tolerant the magic wand will be towards\u00a0color differences. The latter option specifies whether\u00a0the tool will select or unselect the affected area. Since I want to mask out the sky, I&#8217;ll let the &#8220;unselect&#8221; behavior active. As you&#8217;ll see, by using the magic wand it&#8217;s relatively fast and easy to mask out uniform backgrounds such as the sky. With this\u00a0tool you can unselect a portion\u00a0of the foreground image by just drawing onto it with your finger. After selecting it on the tools&#8217; palette, as usual keep your finger holding for a few moments to activate the eraser, then move your finger to draw. PhotoPatch offers some settings for the eraser. You can vary it&#8217;s size, its opacity and edge hardness. Before working with the eraser, I&#8217;ll zoom the foreground image a bit in order to work better on the details. Now I\u00a0have a bunch of bloody brunches that can be easily overlapped to the background image! But in order to make the image even more surreal, I&#8217;ll add a <strong>Process filter<\/strong>\u00a0to the background image. But to my taste the red saturation\u00a0seems a little too strong. At this point I\u00a0can\u00a0<strong>position the foreground image<\/strong>\u00a0to my taste. This can be done\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>moving, rotating and scaling it with two finger<\/strong>. Fast and easy! You can enlarge it and choose to overlay only a portion. Remember, however, not to overdo with the enlargement, you&#8217;ll loose resolution by using only a tiny portion of the image. For this example I&#8217;ll choose to overlay the entire image.\u00a0With a\u00a0<strong>double tap<\/strong>\u00a0on the screen the foreground image will be arranged\u00a0to fulfill the background one (but keeping its proportions). This is achieved\u00a0by just pressing the\u00a0<strong>patch button<\/strong>\u00a0(stamp) located in the rightmost point of the bottom application bar. The image can be saved to the Image Library or exported to other messaging applications such as social networks, E-mail and Message apps. Note that the &#8220;Lite&#8221; version of PhotoPatch will only exports at\u00a0the lower resolution.
